Hong Kong Market Celebrates Father’s Day with Nostalgic Kowloon Walled City Themed Campaign

This Father’s Day, Hong Kong Market at Yat Tung is stepping back in time with a special campaign themed around the historic Kowloon Walled City. Coinciding with the popularity of “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” (九龍城寨之圍城), the market has recreated the ambiance of this once-notorious enclave.

For this unique celebration, customers can enjoy “remastered pricing,” a throwback to the 70s and 80s, featuring traditional treats like red bean pudding, Chinese white sugar sponge cake, and barbecued pork rice at historically low prices.

Adding to the festivities, actors German Cheung (「四仔」張文傑) and Hedy Wong (魚蛋妹) from “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” visited the market, drawing significant crowds and media attention. On Father’s Day, the market featured martial arts performances that paid homage to the classic action films associated with Kowloon Walled City, enhancing the festive atmosphere and resonating with the market’s historical theme.

Beyond the promotions and entertainment, the market features an array of traditional shops, including hair salons, theatres, herbal tea shops, and pawnshops, all designed to mirror the vibrant life of the old Kowloon Walled City. The star attraction is a meticulously crafted 11-meter-long airplane model, a nod to the area’s aviation history. In a bid to support Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, the market is planning to apply for a Guinness World Record, contributing to the preservation and promotion of this remarkable legacy.
